Field Trips

FieldTrip Update

The Zimmer Children’s Museum is delighted to host school groups for students in Preschool through first grade throughout the academic year.  Our field trips invite students to explore and play in the hands-on learning lab that is the museum! Classes may also choose from our exciting Enrichment Experiences that weave together the Zimmer’s signature blend of arts-education strategies and themes of social responsibility.

The museum exhibits and the Enrichment Experiences are aligned with California Content Standards and Preschool Learning Foundations for Preschool through 1st grade.

Stay & Play
This option allows children to explore the museum and play at their own pace within the various exhibits for the duration of their visit.  Field trip groups of 15 or fewer people (children and adults) can be scheduled for any morning that the museum is open – based on availability.

Enrichment Experience
In addition to an allotted time for free play in the museum, this option includes a 30 minute Educator-facilitated, standards-based, integrated arts activity. Enrichment Experience visits are available for groups visiting Tuesday or Thursday mornings beginning October through May.

A. What’s Your Power
Even at a young age, students have the power to make the world better. By comparing real life heroes to superheroes, students explore what powers they each have to make a positive impact on their families, their schools, their communities, and their planet.

B. These Are the Buildings in My Neighborhood
In this lesson students will explore the components of a community and geometry. They will discover what institutions, careers and people make up a community and how communities work together. Students will then collaborate to construct an abstract mural of their community using geometrical shapes.

C. Sense-ational Art
Art experiences that engage multiple senses encourage each student’s development in every aspect of growth. By exploring their sense of sight, smell, sound, taste and touch students will discover new materials and create an original piece of art.
